The Story of the Lotus

Many different cultures regard the Lotus flower as a symbol of self-regeneration and rebirth. The Lotus undergoes a unique transformation not unlike the transformation people experience from illness to health. A Lotus seed begins its journey in muddy waters, deep in darkness. It can exist in the dark for many years; sometimes even hundreds of years before it begins its transformation. At that point, the seed can grow towards the light of the sun even though its roots still rest in the dirtiest depths of the water. Once it tastes the light, the Lotus blossoms into the most beautiful flower, with each bloom unique in size and color. These characteristics are analogous to an individual’s journey towards health. One may live and be rooted “deep in the mud” for many years, but retain the inherent potential to grow towards the light of health and happiness and become a beautiful flower.
